Recaro grew out of the Stuttgart coachbuilder Reutter, which once sewed bodies for the Porsche 356; from the abbreviation of the words REutter and CAROsserie the present name of the brand remained. The Pole Position type is a shell that manages both roles: it has a racing-cut shell with high shoulders, but it also appears commonly in sharp road coupes.
There are two castings in the package, so you can fit out the whole front of the cabin. The surface carries suggested ribbing of the upholstery, the rounded edge of the shell and openings for belts run over the shoulder; the small casting gates stay on the invisible underside.
Let the resin come up to room temperature before building, so that the thin walls do not warp. Paint a seat separately from the floor of the interior and join it only once dry, otherwise cyanoacrylate glue will find its way onto a visible surface and leave a white bloom there, which can be got off a smooth surface only by sanding it back and painting again.
An open coupe or a car with the roof folded stands or falls with its interior. An injection-molded seat from a kit tends to be simplified and its edges blurred by the parting line; a crisply cast shell, by contrast, gives the cabin back its depth and lets the belts, cages and instrument panel you have put work into stand out. It therefore pays to paint an interior in layers: first the whole in a matte dark color, then the edges picked out with a dry brush and finally the upholstery refined in a somewhat lighter shade.
