An accessory set by T-Rex Studio that replaces the drive sprockets on a model of the M1 Abrams tank in 1:35 scale with parts that are more crisply drawn. This version is cut for the Dragon kit. The manufacturer issues an otherwise identical set in versions for Tamiya and for Meng as well, so it is worth choosing by the box you have at home. T-Rex Studio uses the designation Active to set this apart from its older range of Abrams wheels, which it carries as Old version.
The Abrams has its drive sprockets at the rear, the idler wheels at the front and the road wheels on torsion bars between them. The drive sprocket engages the track with a toothed ring and is one of the most clearly visible details of the suspension. The teeth, the cutouts in the ring and the shape of the hub can all be looked over on a finished model from the side and from above, particularly when the model stands raised on a diorama or has its side skirts removed.
Before gluing, compare the new part with the wheel from the box so that both the axis and the spacing to the track match. Choose the glue according to the material of the parts: liquid cement for plastic, cyanoacrylate for parts made of resin. Fit the tracks only once everything has dried thoroughly, so that the sprocket is not torn off its axis. In painting, a primer works well, then the main shade of the hull and finally the weathering, that is dust and mud with pigments in the recesses. On a real machine the teeth and the mating faces of the ring are polished quickly by the track, so it pays to go over them lightly with a metallic shade or with graphite.
