An injection-molded plastic kit of the American AMT brand in 1:25 scale. The set builds on an elaborate engine bay with the big-block 396 V8 that gave the whole version its name. To that it adds a multi-part interior, two steering wheel variants, clear headlight parts and transparent red parts for the taillights, separate wipers, chrome parts and a sheet of waterslide decals. The tires are made of black rubber.
The second-generation Chevrolet Chevelle came for the 1966 model year with a markedly shaped, so-called bottle-shaped body, a recessed rear window on the coupe and a new grille. The Super Sport version became a separate model line in 1966 and received the big-block 396 cubic inch V8 exclusively. It was precisely the combination of mid-size dimensions and a strong engine that created the recipe we call a muscle car today.
Build and paint the engine bay before you fit the body, otherwise you will no longer be able to reach it. Set the block and the heads apart in color from the accessories: cast parts look more faithful with a thin dark wash, which brings out the ribbing and the bolts. Add the plumbing, the hoses and the cables with thin wire only after the engine has been set in the frame, so that the lengths fit. The engine bay and the underside of the body are nicely livened up with a light dry brush of silver on the edges; leave the outside paint deep and glossy, by contrast, so that the contrast works.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
