The real subject

The AB 47J is the Italian license version of the American light Bell 47 helicopter, built by the Agusta company. Compared with the earlier form with a bubble canopy, the type received an enclosed cabin with a solid skin, so it carried the crew and passengers in an enclosed space and suited liaison, ambulance and civilian duties. The landing gear consists of skids, not wheels. The designation Super Ranger belongs to a later form of this series. On the model most of the work is precisely on the cabin glazing and the frames around it.

What the set contains

Masks for a model in 1:48 scale. A mask replaces the hand-laying of tape strips over the glazing, which on curved shapes and narrow frames takes more time than expected and rarely comes out evenly. Which parts the set covers, in what quantity and what material it is cut from are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

• Wash and degrease the glazing before sticking the masks on, as a mask will not seat on a greasy surface.
• Stick the mask on before spraying, not once the paint has dried.
• Press the edges down with a toothpick, so that paint does not seep under them.
• Spray the edge of the mask with the interior color first and only then with the top color.
• Spray in thin coats, as a heavy coat leaves a noticeable ridge once the mask comes off.
• Take the mask off while the paint is only dry to the touch, and peel it away at an angle.

The masks are supplied on their own. The helicopter kit, paints, decals and glue are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
