The six-sided die is the most frequently used kind of roll in wargaming, and a number of systems ask a player to roll several dice at once. Twelve pieces in one set cover the shooting of a whole unit, a series of saving throws and morale tests, without having to split one roll into several batches. The 16 mm size is an established format: a die is comfortable to hold in the hand and stays readable even from the far side of the table.
A transparent build differs from solid colors in that light passes through the die and the shade looks more saturated against a light background. It is easiest to read on a darker mat or in a dice tray, which at the same time keeps the dice from bouncing off the table. The green and yellow combination is legible even in artificial light and will not merge with the usual green gaming mats. A color set of your own also pays off at a table with several players, because it is clear at first glance whose roll is whose.
