This is a small accessory for figures and dioramas, not a kit. It offers the Italian Mod. 33 pattern steel helmet in 1:48 scale. The brand offers the same helmet in this scale in two versions and tells them apart in the name with the word detail: this is that second version. What the two versions differ in is set out by the manufacturer's description on the box. That also gives the number of pieces and the material.
The Mod. 33 pattern helmet, that is the Elmetto Mod. 33, was introduced by the Italian army in 1933 and replaced an older French-type helmet. The smooth shell with its slightly drawn-in brim became the typical mark of the Italian soldier of the Second World War. It was worn by units in North Africa, in the Balkans, in Italy and on the Eastern Front. After the war it stayed in use for several more decades, so it is rewarding for postwar subjects too.
Separate the part from its carrier block with a sharp knife, level the small face left by the cut with fine abrasive paper and wash the surface before painting and let it dry. With parts of this size super glue holds more reliably than cement for plastic. A thin base coat evens the surface out and brings out the shape, and the shade itself looks good with a light dry brush along the edges. A dark wash drawn into the recesses separates the shell from the chin strap. A matte varnish at the end evens the sheen out with the surrounding figure.
