A kit of the small American airliner GA-43 Clark in the colors of the Spanish airline L.A.P.E. from the Sova Model brand. Once built, the display model measures only a few centimeters, yet it is one of the most elegant all-metal monoplanes of its day and it turns up in the ordinary ranges only rarely.
The GA-43 grew out of a design by Clark and first flew in 1932. It was a single-engined all-metal low-wing monoplane with a cabin for around ten passengers, a separate space for the pilot and retractable landing gear, that is a very modern machine for its time. Series production nevertheless never got under way and only a few examples were built. These then passed through a series of owners: they flew with Swissair, in South America and finally with the Spanish L.A.P.E., that is Líneas Aéreas Postales Españolas. The Spanish machines were caught by the Spanish Civil War, and their fate is a rewarding subject for historians today.
The model is small, so the preparation of the surface decides the result. Fill the fuselage joints with liquid filler, sand them back with progressively finer papers and polish the surface, because a glossy finish gives away every irregularity. Apply the metal finish from an airbrush onto a perfectly smooth gloss base. Mask the small windows with cut tape and lay the decals onto gloss varnish, so that no edges stay visible. Finally even the surface out with a semi-matte varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
