YF-23 BASIC kabuki masks 1:48 (New Ware)

A basic set of laser-cut kabuki masks from the Czech manufacturer New Ware in 1:48 scale. It is intended for models of the American YF-23 stealth prototype. The fine kabuki tape follows the shape of the glazing exactly and leaves no marks when taken off.

The real subject

The Northrop/McDonnell Douglas YF-23 was an experimental fighter demonstrator developed in the Advanced Tactical Fighter program as a rival to the later F-22. It was notable for its markedly swept aerodynamics and for the emphasis on low radar and thermal detectability.

Use

• The BASIC level covers the outside masking of the canopy glazing for clean framing of the frames.
• The masks are applied to clean, degreased surfaces, with the edges pressed down with a blunt tool.
• The paint is sprayed in thin coats so that it does not creep under the mask.
• They give sharp edges without lengthy cutting of tape by hand.
