The real subject

The Yakovlev Yak-28 was created as a fast twin-engined bomber with a high-set wing, engines in nacelles beneath it and tandem landing gear. A whole family of specialized versions then grew out of the airframe. The Yak-28PP was intended for electronic warfare: it carried equipment for jamming enemy radars and was to open the way for strike formations. In the NATO code the designation Brewer-E became established for it. The machines served from the 1960s and in this role stayed in service long after the bomber versions gave way to more modern types.
