Rivets with a full spherical head in the 1.6 mm size, one of the largest that the brand GAS HANS offers in this range. It is not a kit but small accessory material for modelers. It is used wherever a riveted joint is meant to really show: on heavy armor plate, on load-bearing structures and on elements that call for a coarser, industrial look.
With larger heads a mistake in the spacing shows at once, so mark the positions out beforehand and keep checking the distance from the edge of the part. Work from a drawing or a period photograph of your subject, and lay the whole surface out dry first. The surface underneath has to be flat and sanded, because once the rivets are seated it can only be reworked with difficulty. Even the surface out with primer before painting; the round heads then respond beautifully to washes, because the shadow around the foot of the head gives the surface depth. A dry-brush in a slightly lighter shade will pull out their tops.
For builders in larger scales, for authors of conversions and dioramas and for modelers who keep a stock of fastening material across the sizes. It also serves well when building parts entirely from scratch, where rivets give a rough shape a believable sense of scale.
