Canopy masks 1:32 A-1H/J Skyraider define the frames of the sliding cockpit of the piston-engine attack aircraft.
Responsibility details are not available.
Stencils for the canopy frames of the single-seat Skyraiders in the A-1H and A-1J versions. Both have the cockpit worked out the same way, so one set covers them. The frames on this type are wide and prominent, so painting them in by hand gives itself away mercilessly.
The Skyraider was created at the end of the Second World War as a carrier-based attack aircraft and ended up fighting in Vietnam, long after the jets had arrived. A radial engine of over two thousand horsepower let it carry a load under the wing and fuselage comparable with the bombers of the previous generation and stay over the battlefield for hours. Pilots valued it for exactly that endurance, which the jets of the day could not offer. In return they forgave it the noise, the vibration and the fact that it looked like a late visitor from another era.
The glazed section on this type is tall and only slightly curved, so it masks comfortably. First, though, remove the mold seams on the frames, otherwise the stencil will lift on the edge. Do not forget the anti-glare panel ahead of the cockpit, which is sprayed in a dark shade along with the frames. On large models the rear part of the glazing tends to be split, so lay the pieces out against the drawing before you stick them down.
