The circular stencils 1:32 A6M5 Zero national marking make it possible to spray the Japanese national insignia directly onto the surface of a model instead of applying decals.
Responsibility details are not available.
Instead of decals, the modeler gets precisely die-cut circular stencils through which the national insignia are sprayed straight onto the skin. An insignia like that has no edge of carrier film, does not silver and does not create a raised step over rivets or panel lines. The diameters match the Mitsubishi A6M5 in the large 1:32 scale and cover the positions on the wings and on the sides of the fuselage.
Japanese naval aviation carried a plain red circle; on machines from the later part of the war a white surround was added to it, meant to set the insignia apart from the dark green finish. Neither the width of the surround nor the shade of red was uniform, and both differed with the factory and the time of manufacture. The sprayed variant therefore gives a modeler a freedom that a printed decal with a fixed shade cannot offer.
The base has to be smooth and free of grease. First a white coat is laid on, and once dry the smaller circle is put in place and the red is added. Hold the gun perpendicular to the surface and spray lightly, otherwise the paint creeps under the edge. Take the stencil off shortly after spraying. Laying on a thin coat of clear varnish in advance helps seal the edge before any paint arrives.
This is a masking material, and decals and paints are not included.
