1:32 A6M5c Control Surfaces is a Dead Design masking set for shading the control surfaces and flaps. The sprayed shadow creates the impression that the surfaces are separate and deflected.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set does not mask glazing. It serves to bring out the control surfaces, flaps and other moving surfaces in color: you apply the mask to finished paint, spray over it in a darker shade, and after it is lifted a fine shadow is left on the part, following the outline of the surface and the gap around it. The model gains optical depth that engraving alone cannot give.
It is an optical illusion, not a moving part
After the mask has been used, the surfaces genuinely cannot be deflected and the mask does not help with that in any way. All that arises is the impression of a separate surface and a cast shadow, which works when the model is viewed normally in a display case. Anyone who wants to deflect the control surfaces for real has to cut them off and glue them back on; that is a different job and this set is no substitute for it.
Work only on a dry base coat, ideally after a few days, so that the paint has cured sufficiently. Lay the mask on along the engraved lines, press it down and apply the shading shade very heavily thinned, in several light passes of the airbrush: the aim is a soft transition, not a black stripe. Spray perpendicularly from above so that the paint does not creep under the edge. Keep checking the intensity from a distance and in daylight; in 1:32 scale an exaggerated contrast looks coarse. Once the mask is off, unify the whole with matte varnish, which calms the transitions.
