A set of resin ailerons for the Hasegawa kit of the Japanese Mitsubishi A6M5c Zero fighter in 1:32 scale. It is an accessory for a kit, not a model of the aircraft: the castings replace the ailerons, which in plastic are cast in one piece with the wing, and make it possible to fit them deflected.
The ailerons of the Zero were covered with fabric, so a fine sag appears between the ribs that cannot be hidden in the large 1:32 scale; it is exactly here that the difference between a smooth plastic surface and a casting with the structure rendered shows. The second reason is the position: a real aileron on a parked machine rarely stays exactly in line. A separate part makes it possible to fit the left and right in opposite deflection, which gives a model on a stand the movement that a one-piece wing never has.
First scribe the cut on the wing and only then cut, as in a large scale every deviation is noticed. Separate the original surface with a fine-toothed saw, level the edge with a file and finish the surface by sanding wet; resin dust must not be inhaled, wet paper catches it, and wipe the bench with a damp cloth after work rather than ever blowing it off. Have eye protection while cutting and sanding, as resin splits and a flying fragment is hard. The cast hinges and the leading edge of an aileron are thin, so handle the parts with tweezers and lay them on a soft surface. Keep testing dry until the deflection sits the same on both surfaces; only then apply cyanoacrylate glue. Painting is easiest done separately, on a strip of card with double-sided tape, and the parts fitted once dry.
The accessory is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and other accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise. Before buying, check that the set will fit your kit.
