Responsibility details are not available.
Austria operates the Eurofighter as its only supersonic type and uses it to guard the airspace over a country crossed by dense transit air traffic. The machines of the first production tranche arrived at the base in Styria and replaced the older Swedish fighters. All the Austrian examples are single-seaters, which is fairly unusual among operators of the type, and their red and white insignia are among the most striking in Europe.
The set is laid out so that any machine of the Austrian fleet can be built from it. Besides national insignia in several sizes it holds aircraft numbers, the squadron emblem and the full airframe service stencils, including the lettering at the engine duct inlets, the labels at the ground safety points and the warning markings around the cockpit.
The Austrian Typhoons fly in a light gray finish on which the red elements stand out considerably. To keep the edges from showing, it pays to apply the decals over a gloss base and to wipe the excess adhesive off straight away. The fine technical lettering is better added at the very end, when the model is fully dry and the large insignia are in no danger of shifting. In this scale the span of the aircraft works out at roughly thirty-four centimeters.
The local aircraft have one more quality a builder will appreciate: they are often seen at air shows and photographs from them tend to be easy to find. Anyone who wants to check the exact position of an element or the shape of a national insignia usually does not have to search for long.
