An Eduard photo-etched set for the model of the American Boeing PT-17 Kaydet trainer biplane in 1:32 scale. Thin metal parts refine the places where plastic is too thick.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Boeing PT-17 Kaydet was an American trainer biplane on which thousands of pilots learned to fly before and during the Second World War. It had two open cockpits in tandem, fixed landing gear and an air-cooled radial engine. The design was deliberately simple and rugged so that it would stand up to rough handling by beginners. After the war a large part of the machines passed into civilian hands, where they served as crop dusters and later as aerobatic aircraft.
A photo-etched sheet is a thin metal sheet into which the relief of the individual parts has been etched chemically. Metal holds its shape even at a thickness that cannot be reached with a plastic part, so photo-etching replaces the places where a scaled-down part is necessarily too thick: seat belts, buckles, instrument panels, grab handles, footsteps and small fittings. On a biplane in this scale such details are clearly visible, because the open cockpits let you look inside.
Separate the part with a sharp blade on a hard surface, never by breaking it off between your fingers, or the thin metal will twist and will be hard to straighten. Make the bends over the edge of a photo-etch bending tool or between two blades so that the edge is sharp along its whole length. The parts are bonded with super glue applied on the tip of a toothpick; polystyrene cement will not join metal. Before painting, wash and degrease the metal and lay down a primer, otherwise the paint will peel off the smooth surface.
A photo-etched set is supplied. The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
