About product

A British reflector gunsight of the Second World War in 1:32 scale (Brengun)

This is a detailing set, not a model of an aircraft. The box holds resin castings completed by photo-etched parts, from which you build the British reflector gunsight used during the Second World War. The set offers several forms, so you can pick the variant matching your subject and period. A scale of 1:32 means a large cockpit, in which the gunsight is one of the first details a viewer notices and where the plastic part from the base kit is usually not enough.

What the set offers

A reflector gunsight projected a lit pattern onto a sloping glass in front of the pilot and replaced the older mechanical sight. In shape it is a complex instrument with a thin frame, a glass and a mount, exactly the elements that cannot be molded finely enough in injection plastic. Resin manages sharp edges and fine surfaces, and photo-etched brass then handles the thinnest frames and clips. The result is a detail that stands out clearly in an open cockpit in a large scale.

Tips for working and painting

First wash the resin parts in warm soapy water so that the mold release agent disappears from the surface and the paint holds. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw rather than nippers, as resin is brittle. Always sand it wet or with respiratory protection. It is glued with cyanoacrylate, and the photo-etched parts are bent over a metal edge or in a bender. A gunsight tends to be matte black with metal details, and the glass can be suggested with a piece of clear plastic or a gloss varnish. Bring the whole out with a fine wash in the recesses and a light dry brush on the edges, so that the instrument does not merge with the rest of the cockpit.

Who the set is for

  • Builders of British aircraft of the Second World War in 1:32 scale
  • Modelers who detail open cockpits
  • Anyone interested in working with resin and photo-etched parts
  • Collectors who want to replace the simplified part from the base kit

This is a detailing set, not a model in its own right. Paints, glues and the base kit are not included in the package.
