About product

The interior of the F-104A Starfighter in 1:32 scale

Quinta Studio supplies the cockpit equipment in the form of elements printed in color, which are transferred onto the model just like wet decals. The instrument panel, the side consoles and other inner surfaces thus gain legible lettering and shades without the need to paint them in laboriously. The set is prepared for a large model in 1:32 scale, where an open cockpit is the focal point of the whole build. The target kit is Italeri.

A fighter with a wing like a razor

The Lockheed F-104 came about on the basis of the experience of pilots from the Korean War, who asked for a simple and extraordinarily fast machine. The result was an aircraft with a long slender fuselage and an unusually small trapezoidal wing with a leading edge so sharp that it was covered during ground handling. The A version was the first production form and served with air defense units. The performance was astonishing for its time, but the machine made high demands on its pilots and its career with the US Air Force was fairly short.

The procedure during the build

First sand down the molded relief on the plastic parts, so that the element seats on a level surface. Paint the base with a dark color in the shade of the cockpit and draw gloss varnish over it, on which the element holds; that also reduces the risk of a light strip appearing at the edges. Fit the elements one at a time: immerse each for about fifteen seconds in lukewarm water, slide it off the carrier paper into place and let it dry completely. Do not use decal softener or setting solution at all; it would damage the printed resin and ruin the element. Finish the seat and the frame of the transparent part of the cockpit only after everything is fixed.

Suitable for

  • Builders of jet fighters of the 1950s
  • Those who build with the cockpit canopy raised
  • Modelers who do not get on with painting small lettering
  • Collectors of large aircraft models

The model itself and the paints are not part of this item.

FAQ

They separate in water like a wet decal and seat on gloss varnish, on which they hold; the element has no adhesive layer of its own. Decal softener and setting solution are not used at all, as they would damage the printed resin, and cement for plastic is not used for this either.

Yes, it is advisable to level the molded relief. The element then seats without bubbles and does not deform.

It was the first production form, meant for air defense. The later versions were given different equipment and extended possibilities of use.

Yes, the range also holds a variant designated as reduced, which covers a smaller part of the equipment.

According to the name of the product, for the Italeri kit.
