This resin detail set from the Czech manufacturer Aires replaces the cockpit on a kit of the carrier-based F-14B Tomcat fighter in 1:32 scale. This is not an aircraft model but an accessory for experienced modelers that changes the simplified plastic interior for a richly articulated resin replica of the two-seat cabin with instrument panels, seats and side consoles.
The F-14B Tomcat was a two-seat carrier-based fighter of US naval aviation with variable-geometry wings. Compared with the first production batches it received a more powerful powerplant. The spacious two-seat cabin is clearly visible under the large transparent canopy, so a faithful interior is one of the most effective improvements of a model.
Wash the mold release agent off the parts, cut off the casting blocks and glue with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue). Sand with respiratory protection. Prime the interior, paint it and pull out the detail with a dry brush and a dark wash; bring the instrument panels to life with a fine varnish on the dials.
The set is supplied as a resin accessory for a kit, unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and the base kit are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
