1:35 German Flakrakete Rheintochter I is a plastic kit of the German surface-to-air guided missile of the end of the Second World War from the manufacturer Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit represents the German Rheintochter I surface-to-air guided missile in 1:35 scale. It is a model in its own right, suited both to a collection of early rocket subjects and as a striking item in a diorama with its crew and equipment in the field. The 1:35 scale is chosen so that the model can be combined with the ordinary range of vehicles and figures in the same scale.
The Rheintochter was a surface-to-air guided missile developed in Germany by the Rheinmetall-Borsig concern. The version designated R-I was two-stage and powered by solid propellant. It had an unusual arrangement of lifting surfaces: the main wings sat roughly in the middle of the body, with smaller surfaces toward the front. Guidance was by a radio command system, with which the operator tracking the target corrected the missile's path. Development remained at the stage of test launches and was halted at the beginning of 1945, so the missile never entered regular service. That is exactly why it is a subject that rarely appears in collections.
The body of the missile is long and circular in section, so once the halves are glued, devote time to filling and sanding the lengthwise seam. Finish the sanding with a fine abrasive and polish the surface, otherwise every groove on a smooth body will show under a glossier finish. Fit the lifting surfaces at the very end so that they do not snap off during handling, and do not thin their leading edges unnecessarily. Lay down a filler primer before painting, which will also check the quality of your filling. An airbrush looks a class better here than a brush, because large smooth surfaces do not forgive brush strokes. The test rounds were not in prolonged field service, so go easy on the weathering.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
