A large injection-molded plastic kit of the American Vought F4U-1A Corsair carrier fighter in the premium 1:32 scale from the Japanese firm Tamiya. It is a large, finely engineered kit of the highest quality: the model faithfully captures the marks of the -1A version (the semi-bubble canopy, the lengthened tail wheel strut) and offers a thoroughly worked out Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial engine under removable panels. The gull wing can be built spread or folded, and the flaps and elevators are movable.
The F4U Corsair was an American carrier fighter used from 1943, above all by the US Navy and the Marine Corps in the Pacific. Its hallmark is the inverted gull wing, which made it possible to use a large propeller while keeping the main landing gear short. The powerful Pratt & Whitney R-2800 radial gave the aircraft high speed and rate of climb; the -1A version brought a raised seat and a better canopy, which improved the pilot view when landing on a deck. A number of American aces scored their victories on Corsairs.
A large kit of this kind rewards care. Paint and assemble the engine, the cockpit and the interior in detail before you close the fuselage and fit the panels; thanks to the removable engine panels it will show. Separate the parts with a sharp knife and bond with thin liquid cement for plastic. Apply a primer before painting and spray the finish (typically the gloss US Navy blue) with an airbrush in thin coats. Protect the canopy glazing with masks, bring the panel lines out with a wash and do not forget the external stores (a drop tank, a bomb) if you are going to build them.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
