This set of 3D-printed color decals on decal paper from Quinta Studio is intended for the pilot's compartment of a model of the Grumman F6F-3 Hellcat in 1:32 scale. The elements have real thickness, raised relief and finished coloring, so once they are applied they replace the hand painting of small details, which otherwise calls for a fine brush and a very steady hand.
The Grumman F6F Hellcat was a carrier-borne fighter of the US Navy of the Second World War, a robust machine with a radial engine and a roomy pilot's compartment. The F6F-3 version is the earlier of the main production variants; the later F6F-5 differs from it in details of the cockpit, so choose the set according to which version you are really building. With this subject it is exactly the pairing of version and cockpit equipment that the fit of the set rests on.
Cut the elements out close to the edge, leave them in lukewarm water for about fifteen seconds and slide them off the backing paper onto a smooth and degreased surface, always coated with gloss clear coat, because the element has no adhesive layer of its own and holds precisely on the gloss. Do not use a decal softener or a setting solution; their chemistry attacks the printed resin and ruins the element. You seat it into the relief of the plastic and onto edges and radii by pressing with a soft brush and with a drop of cyanoacrylate. Close the fuselage and the cockpit up only after it has dried through. A matte varnish at the end will unify the surface; on the instruments it is a good idea to leave the gloss.
