This is an injection-molded plastic kit of the American carrier fighter Grumman F6F Hellcat in the large 1:32 scale from Hasegawa. The set makes it possible to build the aircraft as the F6F-3 or the F6F-5 version. The model has a well-worked cockpit, engine and gun sections and separate flaps. The surface detail is finely executed, and the large scale shows the robust fuselage of the Hellcat off well.
The F6F Hellcat was one of the most successful carrier fighters of the US Navy in the Second World War in the Pacific. A robust structure, a powerful radial engine and good armament made it an opponent that contributed markedly to superiority over the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. The -5 version was a later, improved variant with partial aerodynamic and equipment changes.
Use thin liquid cement on the plastic joints. Decide on the -3 or the -5 version before building, because they differ in details. Fit out the cockpit and the engine before closing them in, and mask the glazing. A primer and an airbrush are recommended; the three-color naval scheme was carried by the F6F-3, while the F6F-5 flew mostly in an overall Glossy Sea Blue finish. Apply the decals over gloss varnish.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
