A resin set of engine exhaust nozzles for a model of the F/A-18 Hornet in its A, B, C and D versions in 1:32 scale. It replaces the nozzles from the plastic kit, which tend to be simplified and split into two halves, with the parting seam falling exactly where the fine structure of the individual petals should be visible on the model. The casting offers crisper edges and the inner and outer petals rendered in relief. The variant with opened petals has a counterpart with them tightened; choose according to the scene you are depicting on the model. The set is intended for the Academy kit.
The F/A-18 Hornet is an American carrier-based multirole airplane. The single-seat A and C and the two-seat B and D are powered by two General Electric F404 engines. The exhaust nozzles are among the most visually exposed places on the Hornet's airframe: they are fully uncovered, have a prominent petal structure and on the real machine carry strong heat staining and exhaust deposits. That is exactly why the difference between the plastic part from the kit and a casting shows on them even from an ordinary viewing distance on display.
First wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water, because mold release residue clings to the surface and paint will not hold over it. Do not break or twist the casting blocks off: cut them with a saw or a cutting disc with a good margin and sand the remains down. Do not breathe in the resin dust; sand under water if you can. The parts are glued with cyanoacrylate glue, because cement for plastic does not work on resin. Apply a primer before painting. The nozzles are painted in metallic shades with heat-stained transitions, and at the end a light touch of soot and dust pigments toward the outlet suits them well.
The set is an accessory, not a kit of the airplane. It is supplied unpainted. The base model, glue and paints are not included in the package.
