The long nose from Focke-Wulf

The D-9 version exchanged the radial BMW for a V-form Jumo 213 A. So that the longer engine would fit, the nose was drawn out and a plug was added at the back ahead of the tail surfaces, so the machine gained an unmistakably slender silhouette. The annular radiator at the front was confusing, though, because from a distance it recalled a radial. In combat the Dora made its mark from the autumn of 1944 with the JG 26 and JG 54 wings, and the best-known examples guarded the takeoffs of jet aircraft with the strikingly striped underside of the fuselage.

What makes the release updated

The word in the name refers to a newer treatment of a subject released earlier. The printing is finer, the individual layers thinner and the shades closer to the color charts of the day. Inside you will find the main panel, both side walls with their controls, the seat with its harness and smaller accessories which exist in plastic only as a shallow impression of the mold.

Which plastic the cut is for

The manufacturer states agreement with several boxes of the same aircraft at once, namely Hobby 2000, Hasegawa and Revell. You buy the model itself separately. Before sticking them on, check that the mating surfaces are smooth; even out any flash of plastic with a file, otherwise the layer will not adhere over its whole area.

The set makes sense even where you want to close the cockpit up in the end. It is mainly the glossy dials that stand out through the glazing, and they make up most of what a viewer really sees of an interior.

The Jumo 213 A engine was originally intended for bombers, and it was precisely its availability that decided why the Dora came about so quickly. Inside the cabin that showed only a little, as the arrangement of the indicators stayed close to the older machines with a radial powerplant.
