A small resin accessory set in 1:48 scale from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. The content is an American aerial bomb carried under the fuselage of the P-40E. The casting offers a finer surface, sharper edges on the tail fins and a more faithful body profile than an injection mold can manage.
With an Allison V-1710 engine and six 12.7 mm machine guns, this machine was among the most widespread American fighters of the first war years. At high altitude it fell behind its rivals, but down low it did well, which is why units in the Pacific, over North Africa and over China sent it mainly against ground targets. A pylon under the fuselage belonged to that work as naturally as the machine guns in the wing.
First wash the casting in lukewarm soapy water so that no mold release layer stays on the surface. Separate the casting block with a saw or a sharp knife and level the area with abrasive paper; protect your airways when sanding resin. The joint holds reliably with cyanoacrylate glue. Before spraying it is worth laying down a thin primer, on which the shade then sits evenly.
