A German motorcycle messenger standing beside his machine, in the larger 1:32 scale. The figure is supplied on its own; the motorcycle is not in the package.
Responsibility details are not available.
The 1:32 scale gives a standing figure about five and a half centimeters against five in the more common scale of 1:35. The difference sounds slight, but area grows faster than height: on the face an eye socket can be shaded in, on a glove the stitching suggested, on a coat wool cloth told apart from leather. Anyone who paints in oils or in thin acrylic coats will value this size. It also goes with the aircraft and airfield equipment that the manufacturer makes in the same scale.
A long coat down to the ankles, fastened between the legs so that it would not foul the spokes of the wheel. Leather gloves with a cuff over the sleeve. Goggles with a leather rim, either over the eyes or pushed up above the peak of the cap. The dispatch case worn over the shoulder is easy to overlook, and yet it is just that which makes a messenger of a soldier; when painting, it pays to set it apart with its own tone of leather. Dust and mud belonged to that work so much that in color terms it pays to work with shades of gray and brown rather than with pure factory field gray.
The name says it openly: the rider is included, not the machine. The arrangement makes sense, because the figure can be put with any period motorcycle, or used entirely without one, leaning against a wall or a fence.
A resin casting wants a different approach than an injection-molded kit. A short bath in warm water with a drop of dish soap, care with the thin parts, and a joint made with cyanoacrylate glue or epoxy.
