Eduard 1:32 Hawker Hurricane Mk.II - cockpit door (3D printed)

This is a detail accessory from the Czech manufacturer Eduard. It is not an aircraft model or a kit: the package contains a 3D printed replacement for the side entry door of the cockpit for a model of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.II fighter in 1:32 scale. The accessory is intended for Revell kits in this scale. Direct 3D printing makes it possible to reproduce the thin wall of the door as well as the structure on its inner face, which a plastic part from the kit usually only suggests. That is exactly what matters on the Hurricane: the characteristic hinged door on the port side is usually displayed open on a finished model and its inside is then clearly visible.

Use

• Replace the original plastic door from the kit with the 3D printed part; the fit is arranged so that it follows the cockpit of the basic kit.
• Wash the part in lukewarm water with detergent before painting, which removes the residue of uncured print resin, because otherwise neither paint nor glue will hold.
• Cut the print supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw and sand the mark they leave carefully; do the sanding with respiratory protection (a respirator, ideally wet).
• Glue with cyanoacrylate, because cement for plastic does not react with printed resin.
• Apply a primer before painting; the inside of the door then stands out in the RAF interior shade with a light picking out of the edges (drybrushing, a wash).

Who the accessory is for

For modelers who build the Hurricane Mk.II in the large 1:32 scale and want the cockpit open and convincing down to the detail. Handling printed resin and cyanoacrylate assumes at least a moderately advanced modeler, but replacing the door itself is quick and requires no intervention in the structure of the model.

The accessory is supplied unpainted, as a 3D printed part. The base kit, paints and glue are not included in the package.
