Responsibility details are not available.
A sheet of wet decals for models of the Hawker Hurricane Mk.IIC fighter in 1:32 scale. It is the fourth part of an extensive series that the maker devotes to Hurricanes in various services; this sheet concentrates on Royal Air Force machines and on the theme of night operations. The decals are an accessory for a model; the aircraft itself is not included.
The Hurricane Mk.IIC is the version with the Rolls-Royce Merlin XX engine and with an armament of four 20 mm Hispano cannons in the wing. It was that very combination that made the Hurricane an aircraft which, although it fell into the shadow of the Spitfire in the day fighter role, served outstandingly well as a night fighter and night attacker. A sturdy airframe, calm flying qualities and heavy armament suited work in the dark better than top performance. Night Hurricanes used to carry very dark finishes, on which even restrained personal markings and numbers stand out - and a model like that is a rewarding object for decals in a large scale.
The base has to be smooth and glossy - on matte paint air gets under a decal and a white veil appears around it. Spray the paint first, then a gloss varnish, and let it cure. Separate the decal, soak it in lukewarm water and move it into place, adjusting the position with a brush and a little water. A decal softener will help the sheet hug the engraved relief and the riveting. Finally even the whole model up with a matte varnish, so that the gloss area under the decal disappears. With dark finishes it pays to let the decals dry overnight before you start on the weathering.
