A small set with a big effect: color-printed seat belts for the seats of a Heinkel He 219 model in 1:32 scale. The STEEL designation means that the photo-etched parts are made of steel instead of the usual brass. Steel holds its shape once bent, so a belt can be draped naturally over the edge of the seat and left hanging. The set is an accessory to a plastic model, not a kit.
The Heinkel He 219 was a German twin-engine night fighter of the Second World War with a crew of two seated back to back. In 1:32 scale the cockpit is large and clearly visible through the extensive glazing, so empty seats with no belts look unfinished. The belts also give the interior a readable sense of scale.
Separate the parts with a sharp scalpel on a hard surface. The steel sheet is stiffer than brass, so make the bends gradually and preferably in stages. Shape the buckles with smooth-jawed tweezers so as not to scratch the printing. Try the belts on the seat dry first and only then glue them with a small drop of cyanoacrylate or with a glue for photo-etched parts. Solvent glues would damage the printing. A fine dark wash into the folds helps at the end.
The set is an accessory to a plastic model, not a stand-alone kit. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
