What the set offers

Replacement late type wheels for a model of the Ilyushin Il-2 aircraft in 1:32 scale. The tires are rendered under load, that is with a deflection where they touch the ground and with a slightly bulged sidewall. A parked aircraft thus looks as if its weight really rested on the landing gear, which shows a great deal in a large scale. The late type differs from the early one in the form of the wheel, so the set is chosen according to the machine you are building.

The real subject

The Il-2 was a Soviet ground-attack aircraft of the Second World War, built in enormous numbers and known for its armored forward fuselage. The name Bark, which the name of the item carries, is the Allied code designation of this aircraft. The landing gear under a heavy machine is one of the places where an inaccuracy shows at once, because the wheels carry the whole model.

Building tips

• point the flattened area of the tire toward the ground and keep the axle of the wheel horizontal, otherwise the model will stand crooked
• try the fit dry, and only then glue
• the parts are not the injection-molded polystyrene of the kit; they are glued with cyanoacrylate
• cut the excess material off a short way from the part with a sharp blade and sand the remainder
• before painting, wash the wheels in lukewarm soapy water and degrease them
• paint the hub and the tire separately; a mask or a careful brush will help keep the boundary
