A turned metal barrel in 1:72 scale from the Polish maker Aber. It is not a kit of a vehicle but a detail accessory that will replace the plastic barrel on a model of the German Nashorn tank destroyer, and according to the maker it can also be used for the towed anti-tank gun of 88 mm caliber of the same family. Metal manages what plastic never will in this scale — a long slender barrel stays absolutely straight and the muzzle is genuinely drilled out.
The PaK 43 gun of 88 mm caliber and 71 calibers in length was among the most effective anti-tank weapons of the Second World War. In the PaK 43/1 version it was mounted in an open armored superstructure on a chassis derived from the Panzer III and IV, which produced the Nashorn tank destroyer. The vehicle had thin armor and fought at long range, where barrel length and a high muzzle velocity were decisive. Its typical mark is a very long barrel with a muzzle brake.
Cut the plastic barrel off as close to the cradle as possible and clean the hole out with a drill. Glue the metal part in with cyanoacrylate glue, and on a long barrel watch the axis — metal is heavier and loads the mounting unevenly. Degrease the metal before painting and lay down a base coat for metals. Make the scorching behind the muzzle brake with a dark pigment, so that the long barrel does not look like a bare rod.
This is a detail accessory, not a complete model. Glue, paints and the base model are not included in the package.
