About product

Japanese fighter pilot of the Second World War, number 3, 1:32

The figure from the Czech brand Black Dog is cast in resin and completes models of Japanese aircraft in 1:32 scale. It is not a kit of an aircraft but an accessory in its own right that will give a model scale and liveliness - whether you place it on a stand or into a smaller scene at an airfield.

The number in the name

Black Dog brings Japanese pilots out in a numbered range; the individual items differ in the pose and the dress of the figure. A collector can thus put a group of several figures together without the same pose being repeated. The manufacturer also makes further numbers of the same range.

The real subject

Japanese fighter pilots of the Second World War wore, according to the season and the theater, coveralls of light as well as of warm fabric, a leather or cloth helmet with goggles, a life vest and a parachute harness. It is precisely these features that make a figure in 1:32 scale rewarding: they are large enough to be worked up, and at the same time they can be grasped at first glance. A model of an aircraft with a figure beside it gains at once a scale that a replica on its own will never offer.

Building and painting tips

First wash the resin casting in lukewarm water with a drop of dish soap, so that it is rid of the remains of the mold release agent - without that the paint will not hold. Cut the casting blocks off with a saw or a knife rather than by snapping them off, and level the surfaces with a file. When sanding resin, protect your breathing and work with wet abrasive. Join the parts with super glue and fill small gaps with filler. There follows a thin layer of base paint, best from a spray can or an airbrush. Paint the face from the darkest tone toward the light ones; oils and glazed shadows in the folds of the clothing help markedly. At the end, bring the coveralls and the vest out with a dry brush.

Who the figure is for

  • builders of Japanese aircraft in 1:32 scale
  • modelers who want to give a model scale and action
  • anyone interested in painting figures and portrait detail
  • collectors who are putting a group of figures from a numbered range together

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted, cast in resin. Glue, paints and a model of an aircraft are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It is not. It is a figure in its own right, and you get the model separately.

In modeling resin. The parts are glued with super glue, and ordinary glue for plastic has no effect on them.

The individual numbers differ in the pose and the dress of the figure. Check the particular pose against the illustration on the packaging.

The assembly is simple; more demanding is the painting of the face and of the folds of the clothing. We recommend at least basic experience with figures.
