1:32 Jeannin Stahltaube 1914 - Seatbelts is an accessory set from the HGW brand devoted to the seat belts of a prewar monoplane. It deals with a single detail of the interior of a large model.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set deals with one single place on the model, namely the restraint system of the seat of the open cockpit. It is precisely this detail that tends to be most in view in large scales, because no canopy covers the cockpit and the viewer looks into it from above without obstruction.
In 1:32 scale the seat dominates the whole upper part of the fuselage. Belts modeled from a stiff material look rigid and give themselves away mainly where they ought to drape freely over the edge of the shell. A restraint system that can be laid into a natural shape is therefore able to lift the look of an interior more than most other interventions, and that without taking a finished build apart.
The Stahltaube, that is the steel dove, derives from the design of Igo Etrich, whose wing resembled a bird's strikingly in plan and in its curved tips. The Berlin builder Emil Jeannin replaced the wooden framework of the fuselage with a welded steel frame, which produced a stronger machine that was easier to repair in the field. Aircraft of the Taube shape served in the first months of the World War mainly for observation, liaison and training; as combat instruments they were quickly overtaken by newer designs with a rigid wing and a better view.
The set is intended for more advanced modelers who build aircraft of the First World War in a large scale and want the cockpit brought to completion.
