Masks for the extensive glazing of the two-seat Junkers Ju-87D-1 in 1:32 scale. They hold shapes for both sides of the cockpit and three national insignia.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Ju-87 dive bomber in the D version was given a new, aerodynamically cleaner shape of nose and canopy, but the principle stayed: the pilot and the gunner sat back to back under one long transparent tunnel. The glazed area of this cockpit is the largest of the whole group and on a model in a large scale it takes up a substantial part of the fuselage spine.
The framing runs the whole length and breaks in several planes, so sticking tape on freehand would mean dozens of cuts and no guaranteed result. On top of that the inside really is visible, and from every side: from above through the glazing, from behind past the gun position and from the side. Leave the frames clear on the inside and you get a cockpit that looks as though it were blown from a single piece, because light passes through the frame as easily as through the glass. The reverse-side shapes prevent that and give the structure depth.
The contents are a pair of masks for the canopy, that is for the outer and the inner side, and three national insignia motifs. The shapes are cut in advance, so they are only lifted off and laid on.
The inner shapes belong on the part before the cockpit is closed, and with them the shade of the pilot's compartment. Only afterwards is the glazing seated in the fuselage, the outer mask put on and the camouflage sprayed. The reverse order means you can no longer get at the underside of the frame.
