An injection-molded plastic model of the German dive bomber Junkers Ju 87B-2 Stuka in 1:32 scale from Trumpeter. The tooling is modern, with finely engraved panel lines and riveting; the box holds a well-detailed pilot and gunner cockpit and a fully worked-out engine that can be displayed with the cowling open. The large scale captures the massive, angular shape of the Stuka with its fixed spatted landing gear well.
The Ju 87 Stuka was a symbol of the German blitzkrieg tactics and one of the best-known dive bombers ever built. Compared with the first machines, the B version had a more powerful Junkers Jumo 211 engine and a reworked fuselage and landing gear. A characteristic feature were the sirens on the leading edges of the landing gear legs, the so-called Jericho trumpets, which gave out a terrifying wail during a dive attack. The fixed, spatted landing gear and the inverted gull wings make the Stuka an unmistakable aircraft.
Glue the plastic parts with liquid cement for plastic. Finish and paint the engine and both cockpits before closing the fuselage so the detail does not stay hidden; the extensive canopy glazing is worth masking. Apply a primer before painting, spray the hard-edged camouflage with an airbrush in thin coats and add subtle patina on the underside of the fuselage.
