An Eduard masking set for the Lockheed Martin F-35B in 1:32 scale makes spraying the glazing frames and other surfaces of a model cleanly easier.
Responsibility details are not available.
A masking set is not an accessory that will end up visible on a model but a tool thanks to which the finished model looks better. The pre-cut masks are stuck onto the glazing, sprayed over with paint and lifted off once it has dried. The result is sharp frames with no fraying and with no laborious cutting of tape. In the large 1:32 scale that holds doubly, because here every irregularity of a frame shows at first glance.
The F-35B Lightning II is the variant of the American fifth-generation fighter with the ability to take off from a short strip and land vertically. A lift fan behind the cockpit and a swiveling engine nozzle let it work from short runways and from ships' decks without a catapult. It is flown by the United States Marine Corps and in Europe by the Royal Navy among others. The cockpit glazing on this type is large and in one piece, so a well-executed frame is crucial to the overall impression of a model.
Clean and degrease the glazing first; on a greasy surface a mask will not hold and the paint will creep under. Lift the individual parts with tweezers and press them down with a toothpick, above all round the edge. Spray in thin coats; one heavy coat creeps under an edge more easily. Lift the mask off shortly after the paint is dry, not several days later, when it comes away less easily. This set does not deal with the inner side of the glazing; for double-sided masking the marque has a separate variant.
