About product

Mikromir 1:32 Machine guns of the first world war - an accessory set

A set of aircraft machine guns of the First World War period in 1:32 scale from the maker Mikromir. It is not an aircraft kit or a model on its own; it is an accessory meant to replace or complete the armament on a model you already have. It finds use on biplanes and monoplanes of the First World War, where the weapon tends to be the most conspicuous detail of an uncovered fuselage and where a simplified plastic part from the box usually cannot capture it faithfully.

What the set is for

On aircraft of this era the machine gun is visible in its entirety: it lies on the upper surface of the fuselage or on the wing, with no covers and no cowling. The difference between a coarse plastic part and a finely made accessory is therefore immediately apparent on a finished model, especially in the large 1:32 scale, where even the barrel cooling, the sights and the mounting elements are examined. The set also suits modelers building a diorama with an open engine compartment or an arming scene, where the weapon lies on its own away from the machine.

Usage tips

Cut the original plastic machine guns off only after a dry fit and check that the new parts seat in the existing mounts; on models from older molds the mount usually has to be eased slightly. Paint the small parts while they are still on the sprue or on a wooden stick, as they are easier to handle. Steel parts look best as a dark base with a fine metal sheen applied with a graphite lead or a dry brush, not as a glossy silver. Bring out the cooling jacket of the barrel with a thin dark wash, which underlines the perforation. Glue spot by spot with super glue applied with a toothpick, or the glue will spread over a visible area.

Who the set is for

  • builders of First World War aircraft in the large 1:32 scale
  • modelers who are not happy with the simplified weapons from the box
  • makers of dioramas with an arming or maintenance scene
  • anyone interested in detailing the visible parts of a model

This is an accessory set, not an aircraft kit. The base model, paints and glue are not included in the package.

FAQ

It is not. This is an accessory set of weapons for improving a model you already have. The base kit has to be bought separately.

The types and their number are not stated here.

The scale matches, but the particular mounting depends on the kit used. Always dry-fit and ease the mount slightly if needed.

Best before separating them, on a wooden stick or on the sprue. Steel looks better as a dark base with a fine metal sheen than as a glossy silver.
