A set of masking templates in 1:32 scale for spraying the camouflage scheme and the markings onto a model of the Messerschmitt Bf 109 G-6 in its early production form. It is neither a kit nor parts for a model: the set serves purely for painting a finished airframe. The number of sheets, the scope of the templates and the number of schemes covered are stated on the box.
The Bf 109 G-6 was the most numerously built version of the German single-engine fighter of the 109 series. Its recognition feature is the pair of prominent covers over the engine, forced by the larger breeches of the synchronized machine guns. The early production form differs from the later one in a lower vertical tail surface, simpler canopy glazing and small items on the rear fuselage; those differences feed directly into the shape of the masked areas, so the choice between the early and the late set is not cosmetic.
The surface has to be fully cured, smooth and degreased, otherwise the mask will either not adhere or, the other way round, will tear the paint off. Lay it down dry, line it up against the panel lines and only then press the whole perimeter down; paint running underneath almost always starts at an edge that has not been pressed down. On the soft transitions typical of a mottled camouflage the mask can be lifted on a small shim to get a feathered edge; on hard-edged fields press it down firmly instead. Spray several thin layers perpendicular to the surface and take the mask off soon after the paint has dried, slowly and at an obtuse angle.
The accessory is supplied without a model, paints or glue. Check the fit with your kit before buying.
