About product

Messerschmitt Bf 109G-2/G-4 1:32 - an HGW masking set

This item is not a kit of the aircraft. It is a masking set for a model of the Bf 109 in the G-2 and G-4 versions in 1:32 scale. The pre-cut self-adhesive masks are stuck onto the clear parts, the paint is sprayed over them and once they are lifted a crisp boundary stays between the frame and the glazing.

Why the G-2 and G-4 together - both versions share practically the same shapes of the cockpit canopy, which in this generation forms an angular structure folded from flat panes with prominent framing. It is precisely that many straight edges and breaks that makes masking by hand with tape slow work, in which every imprecision shows. The set is therefore carried for both versions together.

The real subject

The Messerschmitt Bf 109 was a German single-engine fighter whose G series was the most numerously built development generation. The G-2 and G-4 versions were early machines of this series powered by an inverted V12 Daimler-Benz engine with direct fuel injection; they differed from each other above all in equipment, in particular in the radio set and the details connected with it. The outward mark of the generation is the angular cockpit canopy with massive frames, which limited the view from the cockpit but was simpler in construction.

Use and tips

Wash and degrease the clear parts, or the mask will not hold and the paint will creep under it. Move the masks with tweezers and press them down with a blunt point; with straight frames watch the corners above all. Spray thin coats; one heavy coat will leave a step at the edge. Lift the mask off while the paint is dry only to the touch. Spray the frames first in the shade of the interior and only then in the outer finish.

Who the set is for

  • Modelers building a Bf 109 in the G-2 or G-4 versions in 1:32 scale.
  • Those who want crisp frames of the angular canopy without cutting tape.
  • Builders of Second World War fighters in a large scale.
  • Modelers working with an airbrush who need a repeatable result.

The masks are an accessory for a kit. The kit itself and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

Yes, the name gives both versions. They share practically identical shapes of the cockpit canopy and differed above all in equipment.

No. It is a masking set, an accessory for a kit. A Bf 109 kit in 1:32 scale has to be obtained separately.

Degrease the part, press the mask down carefully above all in the corners of the frames and spray several thin coats instead of one heavy one.

The masks are cut to the shapes of a particular kit. So check the compatibility against the model you are building.
