With HGW the Basic Line is an established combination of fabric seat harnesses and a masking set for the glazing, so one order covers the two places that decide the final impression of a model. The note about the closed canopy in the name specifies which position of the cockpit the masking is cut for.
The Nakajima B5N, which the Allied designation named Kate, was a three-seat carrier torpedo and bomber aircraft of the Imperial Japanese Navy. In its day it was among the most capable machines of its kind in the world and it became famous for its use in the first months of the war in the Pacific. Its characteristic feature is the long, divided glazing over the cockpit, which runs over most of the length of the fuselage – which is exactly why masking is so rewarding on this type.
Lay the masks on perfectly clean and degreased glazing and press from the center toward the edges. With a long cockpit work pane by pane and keep checking that the edges are not lifting anywhere. Fit the harnesses into the seat only after the cockpit is painted; you achieve a natural sag by carefully bending them over a rounded tool.
