A set of decals in 1:32 scale for models of the Curtiss P-40E fighter, which in the British Commonwealth carried the designation Kittyhawk Mk.I. It is a standalone accessory to your own kit, not a model. DK Decals is a Czech brand with an extensive range of Second World War aircraft markings; modelers value its sheets for a thin film and accurate color registration.
The Curtiss P-40E was among the most widespread American fighters of the first half of the war. It was powered by a liquid-cooled V12, whose radiator gave the aircraft its characteristic deep chin beneath the engine. Against the earlier versions, the E type received heavier armament of heavy machine guns in the wings and a reworked nose. At great altitude it fell behind its contemporary rivals, but at low and medium altitude it benefited from a sturdy structure, good diving speed and toughness. Under the name Kittyhawk Mk.I it served with British, Australian, New Zealand and South African squadrons, especially in North Africa and in the Pacific.
Before applying the decals, treat the whole model with gloss clear. On a P-40 that goes especially for the areas with pronounced engraved lines and for the rounded nose, where the film wrinkles easily. Cut the motif out as close to the printing as possible, soak it in lukewarm water and let it come free slowly; do not pull on the film, as it could tear. Slide it into place over a layer of water or decal softener and guide it with a soft brush. Pierce any bubbles with the point of a scalpel and go over them again with decal softener. Once dry, seal the surface with matte clear.
