A decal set in 1:32 scale aimed at Mustangs of the D and K versions of the 23rd Fighter Group of the US Army Air Forces in the closing part of the war in China. It is an accessory to your own kit, not a model. DK Decals is a Czech brand that devotes itself consistently to Second World War aircraft markings and makes further Mustang subjects at this scale too.
The North American P-51D and P-51K were among the best-performing Allied fighters of the end of the war. The bubble canopy offered an all-round view, the liquid-cooled V12 engine with its two-stage supercharger held its performance even at great altitude, and the integral tanks together with drop tanks gave the type a range no earlier single-engine fighter had. The K version differed from the D version mainly in a propeller from another manufacturer and in its place of production. In China it was precisely the range that was decisive - the theater was vast, the airfields far apart and supply difficult. Here the 23rd Fighter Group carried on the tradition of a volunteer unit known for its liking for striking markings on its machines.
Reach for the decals only once the whole paint job is finished, including the gloss clear that gives the decals a smooth bed. Cut the motifs out individually, so that you need not work with a large sheet over the model. After soaking, let the decal come free by itself, slide it off the paper onto a moistened area and settle it accurately with a soft brush. Squeeze the water out with a cotton bud and use a decal softener on engraved lines and rivets. Do not hurry the final clear coat - the film has to be perfectly dry, otherwise it will fog beneath the clear. Matte or semi-matte clear and any weathering come last.
