About product

Copper State Models 1:32 RFC Air Mechanic spinning the propeller (a resin figure)

A resin figure of a British air mechanic in 1:32 scale from the Copper State Models brand. It is not a kit but a standalone figure capturing a typical task in starting the engines of the day, swinging the propeller by hand. The figure will give a diorama of a field airfield movement and a story.

The real subject

The engines of aircraft of the First World War were often started by swinging the propeller by hand. This task was part of the everyday work of the ground personnel of the Royal Flying Corps (RFC), the British flying corps of that time. The figure represents a mechanic in a dynamic pose at the propeller of a machine.

Building and painting tips

Wash the mold release agent off the resin figure, cut off the casting blocks and sand the mold seams with respiratory protection. Bond with super glue (cyanoacrylate). It is a good idea to match the dynamic pose to the aircraft model in advance, so that the hand lines up correctly with the propeller. Flat shades for the working uniform and a fine weathering will give the scene its fidelity.

Who it is for

  • Builders of dioramas of British field airfields of the First World War
  • Modelers of aircraft in 1:32 scale who want a scene of an engine start
  • Anyone interested in the history of the Royal Flying Corps
  • More experienced modelers working with resin

The figure is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
