The Hebrew word Saraf denotes a fiery serpent and in Israel it is the nickname for the AH-64Di attack helicopter. The machines with a radar above the rotor head entered service from 2005 and were carried above all by No. 113 Squadron from Ramon air base. Compared with the American pattern they have a different make-up of electronics, defensive elements of their own and equipment adapted for operation in a hot and dusty environment. Over the past two decades they have been among the hardest-worked machines of the Israeli Air Force (IAF).
The cabin of an attack helicopter is packed with screens and control panels, which in plastic come out only as a shallow engraving. The set takes their place with printed areas in relief: the displays, the keyboards, the side consoles, the seats and the multi-point harnesses. A glossy layer covers the displays and they look like real glass, while the surrounding areas stay matte.
The cutting is based on the Israeli version from the Takom brand, which is a separate item. Because the crew space consists of two separate stations one above the other, we recommend fitting both parts before the fuselage components are joined.
With helicopters that pays off twice over: the glazing is extensive and the inside stays clearly apparent from practically every side, including the view from above.
The desert environment gave these machines a typical appearance: scuffed edges, dusty surfaces and faded lettering. Anyone building such a model will appreciate that the printed areas will take a careful emphasis of the edges with pigment.
