Photo-etched metal accessories in 1:32 scale for a model of the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I fighter. Thin metal replaces the elements that are necessarily simplified in plastic.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the British fighter, the one with which the Royal Air Force entered the Second World War. It is a single-seat all-metal low-wing monoplane with retractable landing gear and the elliptical wing that gave the aircraft its unmistakable silhouette. The Mk.I version was built in several production batches that differed in details, for instance in the form of the canopy or the shape of the propeller. It is exactly such small things that tend to be simplified on a plastic kit and invite improvement.
The set brings photo-etched metal accessories for 1:32 scale. Photo-etched parts are made by etching thin metal sheet, so they have a thickness that injection-molded plastic cannot come close to. They therefore suit everywhere the real thing is genuinely thin: instrument panels, the seat harness, bulkheads, grilles and various covers. The scope of the parts and the order in which they are fitted is described in the instructions supplied with the set.
Separate the parts from the fret with a sharp blade on a hard surface rather than by twisting: the tab is cut through and the remaining burr is leveled with a fine file. Make the folds along the pre-etched grooves, ideally in a bending tool. Metal is joined with super glue or by soldering; polystyrene cement has no effect on it. Degrease the areas before painting and spray them with a primer, otherwise a coat of paint rubs off smooth metal easily.
The kit, paints and glue are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
