A set from the SPACE range by the Czech maker Eduard, intended for the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.I model in 1:32 scale. The SPACE range is built on decals that do not have a flat drawing but a color printed surface with a three-dimensional relief. They are lifted with tweezers from moistened carrier paper and, once settled, look like raised detail. It is not a kit and not a photo-etched set.
The Spitfire Mk.I was the first production version of the British fighter with an elliptical wing and a Rolls-Royce Merlin V12 engine. It was in this rendering that the aircraft entered service at the end of the nineteen thirties and served through the first months of the war. A model in 1:32 scale offers enough room for the equipment of the cockpit to come into its own, and that is where detailing shows up the most.
The procedure differs from ordinary decals: the base is first unified with a base shade, only the carrier paper is moistened with a sponge and a drop of detergent, the element is lifted with tweezers, moved onto the part and settled. It is fixed with white dispersion glue, and the manufacturer does not recommend cyanoacrylate. Do not use a decal softener at all, as its chemistry attacks the printed resin and ruins the element. Because these are often parts in the cockpit, apply the decals before you close the cabin up, or you will no longer reach them. A final matte or semi-gloss varnish blends the edges of the carrier film with the surroundings.
