A set of printed layers for the two-seat cockpit of the attack version of the Tornado, 1:32 scale, for the Italeri kit.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Tornado came about as a joint undertaking of three European countries, and the attack version was intended for strikes against ground targets from low altitude. The wing changes its sweep according to speed, so the machine manages both a slow approach and a whistling pass low over the terrain. The type entered service at the end of the 1970s and stayed in it considerably longer than its creators originally reckoned. Inside, the pilot and the navigator sit one behind the other and each has a quite different set of instruments in front of him, which is a crucial fact for building a model.
Because there are two workstations, the set holds two different main panels and the surfaces at their sides. The printing is in color and carries a thickness of its own, so the individual controls are not merely drawn but can also be felt with the tip of a pair of tweezers. At a large scale that is a difference anyone who looks in through an open canopy will notice.
Anyone who plans the procedure in advance spares himself the anger of a fuselage come apart. Fit the rear workstation first; getting to it later past the windshield frame is unpleasant to impossible. Leave the seats aside until both panels are seated and dry to the touch. The layers are transferred in water, and a cotton swab is useful to hand for drawing the residue out of the corners. Once the interior is finished, give the model a day of calm before you set about gluing the fuselage, so nothing shifts. The Tornado in 1:32 is made by Italeri and the kit is bought separately.
