A figure of an American woman aircraft mechanic in 1:32 scale, the third number of the short line that the Czech maker Black Dog devoted to women around aircraft. In large scales such a theme is rare: ground personnel are usually dealt with by a few uniformed men and the scene then looks monotonous.
It shows best beside an American machine on the apron, next to a mobile ladder, a tool chest or a fuel drum. It works equally well inside a hangar, where a workbench, a few crates and a corrugated iron wall are enough. In 1:32 scale even a small board will carry a scene, because a single figure beside a large fuselage tells the whole story on its own. Anyone building a scene for the first time can start simply: a low board, one figure and two or three small details are enough to give the model a story.
The overalls of ground personnel stay in khaki, olive and faded denim blue; grade the shade with glazes rather than by mixing new paints. Build the skin from a darker base toward the light, while the hair will manage with two tones and a hint of sheen. The most is done by grime in the right places: greasy smears on the knees, on the forearms and on the toes of the boots.
