A painting mask from MH models for 1:32 scale, cut for the clear parts of the model. It is not a kit: these are self-adhesive masks shaped precisely to the individual areas of the canopy, so that the slow business of cutting tape on the part itself disappears. The manufacturer cut them for the Special Hobby kit.
The Westland Whirlwind F.Mk.I was a British twin-engine single-seat fighter. It differed from most of its contemporaries in its pair of Rolls-Royce Peregrine engines and in the concentrated onboard armament placed in the nose of the fuselage, which gave it exceptional firepower in a small space. It was built in limited numbers, among other reasons because development of the engines it used was ended, and it served with a small number of units.
The cockpit of the Whirlwind has both flat and curved areas, and a mask has to cope with both. Flat segments are easy to apply; the trouble starts with the curves and with the transition at the windscreen, where the paper forms small wrinkles as it follows a double curve. Do not force a wrinkle down: it is better to cut it in one place with the tip of a scalpel and overlap the edges, and the joint will then disappear under the color of the frame. Go over the inner boundaries between the masks and the plastic with a toothpick so that the edge of the frame comes out sharp. Fill any remaining open areas of glazing that the mask does not cover with crepe tape or liquid mask. It works well to spray the interior color first and only then the external shade, so that the frame does not show bare plastic from the inside.
This is an accessory for a model, not a kit. The model, paints and liquid mask are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
